Define how the project should be built before committing to delivery.

A short, optional paid engagement for a known project that cannot yet be responsibly scoped. It turns product, technical and design uncertainty into a direction and a defined next step.

Discovery defines the project. If the valuable opportunity is not yet known, Pare Audit identifies what to improve first.

Not every project needs Discovery.

Clear work is quoted directly after the first call. If the outcome and boundaries are already understood, Pare can move straight to a fixed-fee proposal.

Discovery is useful when the known project crosses products, systems, data, design, or teams; when there are several plausible routes; or when building before investigating would transfer avoidable risk to the project.

It is a decision-making engagement, not a required first step. The aim is to establish how the project should be built, what should be avoided, and what evidence the decision rests on.

Seven useful outputs, written to travel.

The work is documented so it can support a decision with Pare, an internal team, or another supplier.

  1. Current-state diagnosis

A grounded account of how the work happens today, where it slows down, and what that friction costs.

  2. Product, technical, data, and design review

A joined-up review of the product, systems, information, interfaces, and operating constraints that shape the decision.

  3. Recommended direction

A clear recommendation for the smallest responsible next move, with the reasoning behind it.

  4. Alternatives, including buy or integrate

Options that avoid unnecessary custom work, including buying an existing product or integrating what already exists.

  5. Risks and assumptions

The important unknowns, dependencies, constraints, and assumptions that need to be made explicit before delivery.

  6. Priorities and phases

A practical order of work that separates what matters now from what can wait until the first result is proven.

  7. Defined fixed-fee proposal

When Pare is the right team to continue, a proposal with the outcome, scope, exclusions, milestones, ownership, and fee defined.

Paid, not pitched.

Discovery is a defined piece of client work, not a sales exercise disguised as consulting. The scope, fee, working method, and output are agreed before it starts.

The client owns the output. The diagnosis, recommendation, alternatives, risks, priorities, and proposal are yours to keep whether Pare delivers the next phase or not.

Start with a short call.

If the intended project is known, we will establish whether it can be quoted directly or whether Discovery would make the next decision safer.
